The Brief
Once the attackers had gained access to the client’s cPanel, they set up a filter that redirected all incoming emails to their own email address. They then modified emails that contained invoices and changed the IBAN code to their own. The attackers then sent the modified invoices to the client’s partners, who made payments to the attacker’s account instead of the client’s.
The client only realized something was wrong when their partners started complaining about not receiving payment for the invoices. The client contacted Black Cybers Solutions to investigate the issue and to recover their lost funds.
Our Approach
Black Cybers Solutions started by thoroughly analyzing the client’s server and website. We discovered the routing email used by the attackers and identified the unnoticeable difference in the email used to send the modified invoices. We then cleansed the server and the website, added a firewall, and installed a monitoring system to detect any future attacks.
We also added dummy files to the server that gave out signals when they were accessed. This helped us detect any unauthorized access to the server and take necessary action promptly. Finally, we recommended the client to opt for our web security package for the next year, which they did, and they have not experienced any security issues since then.

The Results
